Two fun ways to get my students to interact with each other

First: MY Google Maps

https://www.google.com/maps/d/home <- lets you create a shareable link for students so they can pin any location on Earth. This works great as a fun icebreaker—like “Where would you like to travel?”—or as part of a creative Systems of Linear Equations project (currently in the works… I’ll share once it’s ready).

In my sheltered EL class, students love learning exactly where everyone is from. This map becomes a shared space that helps both my students and me remember everyone’s home country, which is a powerful entry point for creative CLR (Culturally and Linguistically Responsive Teaching).

Shoutout to Alice Keeler, who has compiled a fantastic list of ways to use this tool across different content areas.

Second: Padlet

The digital interactive bulletin board. This tool is great for getting students to share ideas, videos, and articles with one another around current Learning Targets. It creates a shared space where students can collaborate, learn from peers, and build on each other’s thinking.

Visit my student work page to see an example of students sharing their ideas and resources with one another. You can also watch the video below for a quick walkthrough on creating a board.
